My 7-year old’s are almost as big as mine’s :)

He loves his and won’t take them off. My very first pair was bought in 2001. Back then, Uggs were still Made in Australia and were not as popular yet. I still have them. They’re tattered and dirty yet I still wear them. They’ve been all over the world, too :)

They think I know everything

I love to eat.  And I love food.  I constantly talk about food and I even write about food.  Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of questions from family, friends, and even strangers…

“Where can I buy bison meat?”

“Do you know of any cute banquet halls or restaurants with private rooms, where we could have K’s baby shower?”

“Where should I take my cousin who’s coming from out-of-town to dinner next week?”

“Which restaurant serves pork shank?”

“Which bar has the nicest vibe and a good view of the city?”

And here’s the kicker…  the Features reporter of a local CBS station is a good friend of mine.  He calls one day and asks:

“Which fun restaurant should I feature next on my show?”

Disgusted

I went to Bloomie’s to spend the additional bMoney gift cards that my mom gave me. Today was the last day. Stores close at 6pm. It was already 4pm. I wanted to get a big foldable Longchamp tote which I can use to lug my magazines and books around. But they didn’t carry the line at the mall I was at. The other mall where they did carry the line is 20 minutes away and I still have to buy new uniform shoes for my 7-year old.  So I ended up getting his ugly tote:

It looks like a diaper bag :(   The only consolation was that I had enough bMoney cards to pay for it that I didn’t have to fork over any additional money of my own.  Will have to go tomorrow to exchange this.

LP 43: Lila (Violet)

I’m not called thepurplegirl for nothing. Violet, purple, lilac are my favorite colors. So imagine my excitement to find out this week’s Litratong Pinoy theme as Violet. I’ve never joined before because I find it very difficult to write in complete Tagalog. But I found out na pwede pala ang Taglish. So eto na ang aking first entry…

A shopping tradition

I am very fortunate to have been blessed with a true-blue shopaholic mom. My younger sister and I practically grew up in her favorite boutiques — never having to use the public bathrooms at the mall and getting fed designer snacks — are a few of the perks we’ve experienced growing up. Shopping with her means never having to pay for luxuries we can’t afford on our own. Best of all, she always buys 3 of everything: one for her, one for me, and one for my younger sister.

Part of our regular shopping tradition is having lunch at Neiman Marcus’ The Zodiac (now called NM Cafe). I was 13 when I first remembered liking the food here but quickly got bored because we’d be eating here twice a week; sometimes more. But the menu has evolved throughout the years and we actually look forward to it whenever we’re out shopping with shopaholic-mom.

So yesterday, we had lunch at NM Cafe once again…

Weekly lunch w/ mom at Neiman's NM Cafe

NM Cafe is famous for their popovers with a flaky outside and a custard-like thin wall inside. Served with a hot demitasse of chicken broth and a small tub of creamy strawberry butter, what’s not to like?

They are also famous for their She-crab soup — a smooth bisque with lots of huge lumps of crab meat then finished off with a drizzle of sherry wine. So filling and delicious.

This ginger tea is only available in our city’s NM Cafe. It was concocted by a server when Republic Tea couldn’t make their delivery on time due to an ice storm. It is the best brewed iced tea in the world. But pricey at $4.00. Free refills, however!

Today I tried their Croque Madam for the first time. The creamy herb dressing was too rich but good overall. My mom didn’t like her seafood pasta — too bland, she says.

More about food and shopping to come…

Free money at Bloomie’s

free money at Bloomies

Ok, you girls better hurry and head on over to Bloomie’s. For every $100 purchase, you get $15 back in the form of a gift card. Gift cards must be used by February 1st. I used mine to get new boots and only had to fork over an additional $57. Can’t beat that. Incidentally, all (except Ugg) boots at Bloomies are 40 off. I got me some nice short leather ones for everyday cool weather wear.

The following day, my shopaholic mom gave me $135 worth of bmoney gift cards that I used to buy a huge foldable travel tote from Long Champs.

So go now!

Happy New 4707!!!

Ok, it may be the Chinese version of New Year, but nevertheless…

I’ve decided to change gears altogether on this blog.  Call it a major case of burn out.  From now on, I’m going to write about girly stuff instead.  Everything about food is still over here which is in semi-hiatus every so often.  In any case, hope this will activate my blogging juices once again.
